Pregnancy is a miracle! It is a time of incredible change, physically and spiritually. You are literally moving from being a body to becoming a vessel for new life. It is understandable to question,
“Can I still do my yoga?”
And with the multi-faceted energy levels of Kundalini Yoga, it is a legitimate question:
“Can you do Kundalini Yoga when pregnant?“
The answer, my dear mothers-to-be, is an emphatic, happy YES with modification in mind and under the guidance of a qualified teacher. Kundalini Yoga classes can be a very supportive and nourishing practice kundalini during this time! Imagine being able to find deeper peace despite all of the hormonal changes, as well as having the ability to strengthen your nervous system and become more flexible, and connecting consciously with your baby through conscious breathing and gentle movements!
However, everything should be done with delicacy. When we are pregnant, we want to nurture and make space, not feel drained. This means
- Pranayama (Breathwork): Enjoy long, deep breathing, cooling breaths like Sitali, and soft, expanding breaths. We typically do not include strong Breath of Fire or strong abdominal thoracics, as they put pressure on the abdomen.
- Kriyas (Set of Exercise): Many Kundalini Kriyas can be successfully modified. We will modify or exclude aggressive abdominal work, inversions (like shoulder stands), and aggressive root locks (Mula Bandha). Instead, we will focus on gentle stretches, hip openers, pelvic tilts, and heart openers to nourish your changing body.
- Meditation & Mantra: These are your anchors! Meditations and chanting mantras are enormously supportive mechanisms for quieting the mind, relieving stress, and loving connection with your developing child.

Can You Do Kundalini Yoga on Period?
Just as pregnancy has a cadence all its own, so does menstruation. Throughout history, yogic traditions have defined the menstrual cycle as an important, personal time—a time of cleaning, letting go, and renewal. So back to the question, “Can you do Kundalini Yoga Clases on period?“
During your moon cycle, your body’s natural energy (Apana Vayu) moves downwards and supports cleaning and eliminating. Yogic knowledge suggests respecting that natural downward flow instead of trying to oppose or reverse the current. This will mean
- Abstaining from Upward Energy (Udana Vayu) Practices: We generally recommend refraining from postures that are considered inversions (headstand, for example, or shoulder stand), Breath of Fire that is powerful and explosive, as well as intense abdominal locks (Uddiyana Bandha, Mula Bandha) that also draw energy up into the body.

The tradition associated with white is not coincidental either. White is thought to expand your aura, or electromagnetic field, because it reflects all colors. It helps keep you linked to purity, clarity, and focus and can aid in regulating your body temperature when practicing.
Aside from color, your Kundalini Yoga attire and Kundalini Yoga clothes should be
- Loose-fitting and comfortable—your clothing should fit loosely so that there is no restriction in movement or flow of energy. Natural or breathable fabrics, like cotton, are ideal.

Powerful emotional release: When you awaken Kundalini energy, it can bring to the surface repressed emotion or a past trauma to be expressed. Sometimes the release can be gross and totally intense, even overwhelming, but this is often part of true healing and transformation. While navigating these releases, it is critical to understand how to work with the releases of Kundalini energy in a way that is supportive. Not in fear.
